Marcus Po-Nien Shih (he/him) is a Taiwanese developer and music artist whose work often explores questions around speculative ecologies, societal pressures and social stigma. Graduated with a BFA in Arts and Technology and a Minor in Computer Science, Marcus is interested in pushing the boundaries of virtual reality, sound design, creative coding, and live performance.
Hailing from the windiest city in Taiwan, Marcus is the songwriter and guitarist of the indie band Murmur. With songs like Far Away and The Star in the Universe, their music has reached thousands of listeners and inspired reflections on friendship and self-care. In 2023, Murmur was shortlisted for the NCCU Golden Melody Awards.
When Marcus is not coding or playing guitar, you can find him taking photos or playing basketball. He is currently a teaching assistant for the Music & Technology class at National Tsing Hua University, where he gives workshops and lectures on synthesizers, MIDIs and alternative instruments.
